When Kyuhyun awoke the next morning, the first thing he became aware of was the painful prickles shooting up from his arm, and the second thing he noticed was that Ryeowook was asleep next to him, laying on the arm in question.

The pain was forgotten, and happiness started filling him up from deep inside. “Aw, this day is starting off nice,” he whispered to himself as he started thinking of the ways he could enjoy the other man, but soon the memories of the night before flooded back, slapping him in the face ending such thoughts.

“Argh,” Kyuhyun quietly mumbled to himself as he pulled the sleeping arm out from under Ryeowook. Ryeowook didn’t appear to awaken; he just turned to his back and continued sleeping.

Kyuhyun sat up frowning as the memories of the night before flooded back, and his behavior made him cringe. Ryeowook wasn’t with him because he wanted Kyuhyun. He was with him because he had to placate him like a baby. Ryeowook had not apologized to him for his cold behavior at Music Bank that day or his neglect the following weeks, nor had he promised him anything other than his ongoing presence.

Kyuhyun watched the sleeping man beside him and realized that for Ryeowook, things had gone back to the way they had always been. The man had not balked at being in Kyuhyun’s arms, but instead, was his normal comforting self…being close to Kyuhyun had not made him nervous or excited.

“You are thinking too much,” Ryeowook told him, his eyes still shut, as he reached out a hand for Kyuhyun.

“Things are just becoming clear to me,” Kyuhyun said, taking the hand Ryeowook offered. Kyuhyun turned toward the bed and saw that Yesung was facing the wall away from them and still sleeping with his tiny snoring noises.

“You are scaring me, Kyuhyun,” Ryeowook told him his eyes still shut, but a smile had formed on his lips. “Thinking is bad; when you think, things tend to get burned down.”

“Not funny.”

“Let’s sleep some more. Lay down; it’s still too early to be up.”

“That wouldn’t be a good idea,” Kyuhyun warned. He had let go of Ryeowook’s hand and slid his hand down to grasp Ryeowook’s wrist instead. Ryeowook’s wrists had always mesmerized him; they were so small and delicate.

“Climb up and sleep with Yesung…the bed’s softer,” Ryeowook told him his eyes still closed.

Kyuhyun’s eyes darted to Yesung, who was still facing away from them and could still be heard snoring softly. “That sounds like a good idea,” Kyuhyun agreed, but instead of getting up, he bent forward and kissed Ryeowook’s inner wrist.

Ryeowook’s eyes flashed open instantly as he pulled his arm away from Kyuhyun. Ryeowook opened his mouth to speak, but Kyuhyun’s hand was over his mouth, instantly stopping him from talking. “I know. I wish I didn’t know, but I know,” Kyuhyun whispered as he climbed on top of Ryeowook, their bodies not touching, as Kyuhyun held himself up with his free arm.

Ryeowook’s eyes filled with fear as he reached for Kyu’s hand that was covering his mouth. “It was just a dream. A dream that I must let go of. I should be more like you. It’s so easy for you to let things go,” Kyuhyun told Ryeowook in a voice full of sadness and regret.

Confusion replaced fear in Ryeowook’s eyes as the sadness of the man above him washed over him. Ryeowook pulled Kyuhyun’s hand away from his mouth, ready to deny the easiness of letting this particular dream go, when Kyuhyun bent down and kissed him.

With every ounce of strength he had, Ryeowook willed himself not to respond as Kyuhyun slipped his tongue inside. Ryeowook reminded himself that for the love of Kyuhyun, he couldn’t respond. He need not have worried, for the kiss was brief and bittersweet. Ryeowook watched as Kyuhyun, who looked very broken, pulled away and stood up over him.

Ryeowook turned his head quickly, due to the fact that Kyuhyun only wore a shirt, and Ryeowook was looking directly up it. It was obvious that Kyuhyun had controlled himself against his body's wishes. Ryeowook opened his mouth to say something comforting to the younger man, but Kyuhyun was already on his way out the door.

“What?” Donghae groaned out after being shaken awake by Kyuhyun.

“Doesn’t Siwon keep clothes here? Where does he keep them?” Kyuhyun asked as he hovered over Donghae in Shindong’s black t-shirt.

“What time is it? Go away,” Donghae said, covering his face up with his pillow.

“It’s seven am. Now tell me where Siwon’s clothes are, or I am going to go through your closet. I will just have to show off my ankles all day,” Kyuhyun told Donghae as he took the pillow away from his face and tossed it to the side of the man.

“Nice look,” Donghae couldn’t help but add after looking at Kyuhyun.

“The staff must have taken my clothes, so if you could be helpful, it would be really appreciated,” Kyuhyun informed him, practically snarling.

“They probably didn’t want you sneaking out,” Donghae told him as he sat up in bed. Leeteuk, who was sleeping beside him, made some incoherent noise and rolled over on his side.

“Will you tell me where the clothes are?” Kyuhyun asked him, while watching the leader, who was sleeping with his white facial mask on, for any signs that he was awake.

“Why are you sneaking out?” Eunhyuk asked from the bed across from them. He was sleeping with his head at the foot of the bed with his covers tossed everywhere.

“I just have to get away, or I am going to go mad,” Kyuhyun said, and something in the tone of his voice alerted the other two men to impending trouble.

“He keeps them in the hall closet by Heechul’s room,” Donghae explained as he watched Kyuhyun take off immediately.

Eunhyuk sat up and demanded, “Why did you tell him?”

“Because he asked, and he’s my friend,” Donghae told him, slipping his feet off the side of the bed.

“That’s exactly why you shouldn’t have told him,” Eunhyuk said, standing up.

“Children, hush!” Leeteuk ordered as he picked up the pillow Donghae had been using and covered his head with it. “Putting both of you with me…manager hates me.”

Donghae grabbed Eunhyuk’s hand as the other man headed for the door and whispered, “Where are you going?”

“I’m going after him,” Eunhyuk explained as he continued for the door, dragging Donghae, who wouldn’t let go, along with him.

“Then I’m going, too.”

“You’re in your pajamas,” Eunhyuk told him, trying to pull his hand away.

“You’re wearing my pajamas, too!” Donghae pointed out, not letting go as Eunhyuk dragged him out in the hall.

Eunhyuk stopped. “Oh, thanks for letting me borrow them.”

“You’re welcome. What’s wrong with Kyuhyun?” Donghae asked his friend.

“I can only imagine - not that I want to imagine. It’s just that - ” Eunhyuk stopped suddenly when he heard the door to the dorm open and close. “Crap, he’s on the loose.”

“Then we better hurry,” Donghae said as he took off after Kyuhyun, with Eunhyuk right behind him.

Donghae and Eunhyuk found Kyuhyun outside the building they lived in. Kyuhyun was wearing Siwon’s black sweats, and he didn’t look happy to see them. “What are you two doing?”

“We are here to serve as moral support,” Donghae told him as he walked up to him in his blue Finding Nemo pajamas a fan had sent him.

Kyuhyun eyes turned to Eunhyuk questioning. “Moral support?”

“You are obviously very upset…we want to help,” Eunhyuk told him. Eunhyuk was wearing matching pajamas that another fan had given Donghae.

“You two need to go back upstairs before you get arrested,” Kyuhyun told the two best friends.

“If you go with us,” Eunhyuk told him.

“I can’t go back up there. I need to take a break…I just gotta get away,” Kyuhyun tried to explain as he watched passersbys walk by, staring at the two men in their matching pajamas.

“I don’t know what is wrong, but let’s go get Ryeowook,” Donghae said, as if Ryeowook could make everything better.

Pain flashed across Kyuhyun’s face. “No…not Ryeowook,” Kyuhyun told them as he turned his back on them and started to run down the street.

Eunhyuk and Donghae shared a quick concerned glance with each other and then they were off chasing their friend down the busy morning street. Eunhyuk and Donghae easily kept up with the maknae as he raced through the streets as if he was running for his life.

At one point, they ran right into a crowd of schoolgirls who practically lost their minds when they recognized the three of them. Some of the girls took off after them, pulling out their phones, snapping pictures and recording the boys running away.

After losing the girls, Kyuhyun continued to run with Donghae and Eunhyuk behind him, panting hard. The distance between them widened as Kyuhyun continued to run for miles, much to the shock of the two men following after him.

“He’s got to stop soon, or I am going to die,” Donghae said, panting while reaching out to grab Eunhyuk’s arm as they ran side by side.

“How can he keep going?” Eunhyuk yelled to his friend as they raced to keep up with Kyuhyun. They ran by a fruit stand, nearly knocking the vendor down.

“I don’t know how he keeps going,” Donghae barely got out between gasps as he turned and gave the vendor an apologetic smile. They continued to race after Kyuhyun for what felt like hours to the two older men chasing behind him.

“The park,” Eunhyuk pointed out as they raced through the entrance to the park. Kyuhyun never slowed as he passed by the playground and the water fountain in the middle of the park.

“Kyuhyun, stop! You are going to hurt yourself,” Donghae pleaded as he used his last burst of energy to catch up with Kyuhyun and grab him by the arm.

Eunhyuk sped up, too, and grabbed Kyuhyun’s other arm. “Please stop.”

Kyuhyun’s pace finally started slowing down. “I’m sorry,” he barely managed to get out the words through his labored breathing as he crumbled to the ground, taking the other two with him.

“Oh, thank God,” Donghae shouted in relief as he fell to the ground and rolled over on his back, covered in sweat.

Eunhyuk was down on his hands and knees trying to collect his breath. “Are you going to be okay?” he asked the younger man, concerned with his labored breathing and how he was drenched in sweat.

“No,” Kyuhyun answered honestly as he laid on the ground on his side, gasping for air. “I will never be alright again.”

Donghae sat up quickly, finding hidden strength, and crawled over to Kyuhyun. “What do you mean by that? Why would you say that?” Donghae asked the maknae, full of concern.

Eunhyuk attempted to collect himself and cover. “He just means he’s so tired, he feels like he’s going to die. I feel the same way.”

“That isn’t what he meant! Can’t you tell something is really bothering him?” Donghae asked Eunhyuk, puzzled. “Do you know what it is?”

“No,” Eunhyuk lied to his friend, looking down at the ground, unable to meet his eyes.

“Kyuhyun, you can tell me. I might be able to help. I would do anything to help,” Donghae offered as he laid a comforting hand on the top of Kyuhyun’s hand that was stretched out in the grass.

“Eunhyuk is right. I am just tired from running so much,” Kyuhyun told him as his breathing started to slow slightly.

“You are lying! Something is broken between you and Ryeowook, isn’t it? That’s why you didn’t want us to get him? What are you two fighting about now?” Donghae said, refusing to give up or believe either one of them.

“We didn’t fight,” Kyuhyun said, sitting up. “I just had that nightmare, and I had to run it off.”

“Oh - ” Donghae, who had roomed with Ryeowook and Kyuhyun many times during SJ-M activities, immediately thought he understood, but still he questioned, “Why would you not want Ryeowook, then?”

“I was with him all night. I kept him awake. Yesung was ready to send me to the nuthouse…Ryeowook calmed me last night. I just woke up with that feeling again and…I’m a grown man I shouldn’t have to be babied like a toddler, so I let Ryeowook sleep.” Kyuhyun’s ability to manipulate the truth returned, along with the oxygen supply to his brain, as his breathing eased off.

Donghae looked very doubtful. “That just isn’t like you, and Ryeowook wouldn’t care…he would want you to wake him up.”

“I am thinking about going and jumping in that fountain. Do you think they would call the police on me?” Eunhyuk asked, climbing to his feet and successfully changing the subject.

“Yes, they would,” Kyuhyun answered, as he watched the people in the park who kept throwing them suspicious glances.

“I have to have something to drink,” Eunhyuk said, looking at the fountain fondly.

“That water isn’t for drinking; it’s only for looks,” Donghae told him, climbing to his feet beside Eunhyuk.

“It’s probably recycled sewer water,” Kyuhyun told them from his spot on the grass where he sat.

“I almost don’t care,” Eunhyuk told them, rubbing his throat.

“I will just go buy some water,” Donghae said, pointing to a little stand on the opposite side of the park.

“You have money? Good, because I don’t have anything,” Eunhyuk said, patting his pajamas that lacked pockets.

A look of concern covered Donghae’s face. “No, I don’t. I don’t even have my phone.”

“Me either!” Eunhyuk said, starting to panic. “Kyuhyun, tell me your pockets have money in them - and a phone?”

“Please tell us that,” Donghae said fearfully as both Eunhyuk and Donghae turned back to the younger man sitting in the grass.

Kyuhyun looked up at them regretfully as he reached his hands in the pockets to the sweats he was wearing. “No, Siwon’s pockets don’t have anything in them.”

“You just took off running through Seoul without a phone or money?” Eunhyuk squeaked.

“Uh huh,” Kyuhyun said, not believing his own words.

“You are supposed to be the smart one!” Donghae pointed out, looking around the park anxiously now.

Kyuhyun moaned and fell back down in the grass. “In my defense, I was really upset. What’s your excuse?”

“We were chasing after our crazy friend,” Eunhyuk told him as he sat back down in the grass. “I am going to die of thirst.”

“Me too…hey maybe we could get the water anyways? Maybe they would give us some?” Donghae suggested hopefully.

“I’m not singing for water,” Kyuhyun told them as he gazed up at the bright sky. “My throat is too dry.”

“We can sing, too,” Donghae told him, still standing. “Or we could dance for it?”

“Dance? I can barely walk,” Eunhyuk told him as he took off his shoes and rubbed his feet.

Kyuhyun made a face as the smell of Eunhyuk feet engulfed him. “Put your shoes back on.”

“No,” Eunhyuk told him, sticking a foot in Kyuhyun’s face. “People who get us stuck in a park miles away from the dorm without any money or a phone deserve to smell my feet.”

Donghae watched as Kyuhyun rolled farther away from Eunhyuk and his smelly feet. “I will do it. I can sing and dance…I can do it. Wish me luck.”

“Good Luck,” Kyuhyun and Eunhyuk both told him as he took off with a look of determination on his face.

“Here’s to hoping that it’s a girl working the stand,” Kyuhyun said from his position sprawled out on the grass.

“It looks like a man though,” Eunhyuk said as he peered at the person working the stand in the distance.

“Maybe it’s a woman who looks like a man,” Kyuhyun added hopefully.

“So what you said about the dream, is it true? Or did you do something stupid?” Eunhyuk asked the younger man.

“Both,” Kyuhyun cringed at the memory of his behavior the night before.

“What do you mean by that?”

“I had the dream, then I kinda latched on Ryeowook……but - ”

“But, what?”

“It’s like nothing ever happened between us to him. It was just like the old days with him,” Kyuhyun told Eunhyuk sadly as his early morning realization hit him again.

“That’s good though,” Eunhyuk told the other man gently.

Kyuhyun sat up quickly and huffed, “For everybody but me.”

“No, it’s good for you, too. Don’t you see that?” Eunhyuk pointed out, putting his shoes back on.

“I know logically that it’s for the best, and I should be relieved…but I’m not. I hate it.”

“I honestly don’t know what to tell you. I hate that you are unhappy, but it had to happen, or God knows what would have become of the group…not to mention your lives,” Eunhyuk said, scooting closer to Kyuhyun, so not be overheard by anybody walking by.

“It’s just that he started all this, and I am the one left moping around like a broken hearted school girl……that really pisses me off,” Kyuhyun blurted out, crossing his arms.

“It could be worse. You guys could have ended badly. This way, Ryeowook still loves you and wants the best for you…like a friend should. Nothing was broken so badly that it couldn’t be repaired,” Eunhyuk said, laying a comforting hand on Kyuhyun’s back.

“Are you sure? I feel broken inside. When I’m not sad, I am so mad that I could just…just scream. I was dumped! He’s moved on, and it was over before it even started,” Kyuhyun told him with his voice and face full of bitterness.

“You weren’t dumped because he found somebody better. He dumped you for you. He did what was best for you. It isn’t like he’s happy. It isn’t like he wanted - ” Eunhyuk stopped suddenly as Kyuhyun’s gaze turned on him curiously. “It isn’t like he wanted to hurt you. It’s just how things turned out. He can’t help it if his feelings changed.”

“Did they change?” Kyuhyun’s intelligent eyes were studying Eunhyuk closely now.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Eunhyuk told Kyuhyun while he mentally kicked himself.

“Too obvious, and too soon…he fooled me,” Kyuhyun almost shouted as the realization hit him. “Oh, he was good. He had me fooled,” Kyuhyun said, climbing to his feet with a huge smile on his face.

“Aren’t you too smart to be fooled?” Eunhyuk told him, jumping to his feet beside him.

Kyuhyun was laughing in relief now as he took off in Donghae’s direction. “You know that old saying about how love makes everybody a fool…so true. Of course he’s lying to protect me. He got scared, and he overreacted. I’m such an idiot.”

“No…he moved on. He did…you just don’t want to believe that,” Eunhyuk sputtered as he took off after Kyuhyun.

“I’ll never believe that again. This is mutual, and it isn’t something that fades away, much less stops suddenly. This is forever, and I will never doubt it again.”

“What the hell are you saying? You can’t talk like that!” Eunhyuk exclaimed at Kyuhyun’s renewed confidence.

“Yes, I can. He’s going to admit it, too,” Kyuhyun said, his old cocky attitude back.

Eunhyuk grabbed Kyuhyun’s arm. “If you push him, you really will lose him. He isn’t going to risk your future for anything…no matter how he feels. He decided that and he doesn’t care how much it hurts you or him. He will protect you, even if you’re too stupid to protect yourself.”

Kyuhyun stopped suddenly in his tracks. “You’re right. If he was going to give in, he would have given in already…he had to know how I was suffering. He’s playing hardball. I can play hardball, too. You can’t let him know that I know.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“He has to think that I’m still clueless,” Kyuhyun said, smiling brightly as an idea took root in his brain.

“You are scaring me!”

“No reason to be scared; I am just going to go along with him,” Kyuhyun said, all his old swagger back, and Eunhyuk could see his mind working a million miles a minute.

“I will tell him that I slipped up and you know he is acting. I will tell him. I am not on your side here. I am on the side of the group. I will tell him if it means keeping you two apart.”

Kyuhyun frowned, and his eyes were instantly like daggers aimed at Eunhyuk as he jerked his arm away from the other man and backed away from him. “I see.”

“Do you see? This isn’t high school! We are talking about more people’s lives then just your own. I love you both, and you’re my brothers…but I am not going to willingly participate in your destruction.”

The truth of Eunhyuk’s words were like a huge slap in the face to Kyuhyun, and he was speechless, unable to respond to Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk continued to plead with him as he walked up closer to the younger man and took his arm. “You can’t help how you feel. I know that, and Ryeowook feels the same way, but he is at least trying. You have to help him, not make it harder for him.”

Kyuhyun suddenly looked like all his strength had left him as he sat back down in the grass. His cocky attitude was completely gone now. “I know that’s what I should do.”

Eunhyuk just stood beside Kyuhyun, looking up at the sky and hoping for the right words to say. “I hate this. I hate this whole situation. I don’t mean to hurt you.”

“I know,” Kyuhyun said sighing. “I know you’re right. I won’t tell him I know. I will just play along with it. It’s probably easier if he thinks I am close to giving up…and I was this morning. I mean not giving up how I feel, but I was certain that he had moved past it.”

“And I know how much that hurt you,” Eunhyuk said, resting a comforting arm on Kyuhyun’s shoulder.

“It killed me. It was like the worse pain ever. He knew it too, and he didn’t come after me.”

“I am kinda betting that he knows I did, along with Donghae,” Eunhyuk said, trying to comfort the younger man.

Kyuhyun smiled a little and said, “Well, I feel better knowing it’s all an act. I mean I won’t confront him about it...but it feels better.”

“I guess that’s good,” Eunhyuk said as he watched the younger man’s mood start to change again.

“I’m not that easy to get over.”

“Kyuhyun - ”

“What? It’s just a fact. He can play hard to get all he wants. I have my own games to play now.” The smirk was back, and something in the tone of Kyuhyun’s words put Eunhyuk on edge again.

“You should talk to someone…before you do something really stupid,” Eunhyuk hurriedly offered.

“I’m talking to you. Who do you suggest….since we can’t tell anybody?” Kyuhyun said, looking up at Eunhyuk as if he had gone insane.

“You should talk to Yunho,” Eunhyuk blurted out after taking a really deep breath.

“Yunho?” Kyuhyun asked as he jumped to his feet, completely shocked at that suggestion.

“Leeteuk would have a stroke and die. The mangers would have you both castrated. Yunho would never do anything to hurt anybody or the company. He would listen to you, and I am sure he would offer you great advice. I have thought a lot about this, and Yunho is who you should talk to,” Eunhyuk said, tripping over his words as he stumbled to find the right ones to convince the younger man.

“Are you crazy? Yunho has enough to deal with without me adding to his problems - not to mention Changmin would kill me.” Kyuhyun continued to stare at Eunhyuk as if he had lost his mind.

“Changmin adores you, and I am sure Yunho wouldn’t tell him.”

“Whatever adoration he has for me would be gone in a second if he thought I was causing Yunho more stress. You have no idea how protective Changmin is of Yunho. Have you seen Changmin's muscles lately?”

“Changmin wouldn’t hit you,” Eunhyuk said, rolling his eyes.

“You are right, because he is never going to have a reason to hit me! I am never admitting this to anybody! It’s a secret among the three of us ‘til the day we die,” Kyuhyun told him, freaked out by the thought of confessing to somebody else.
